2005

Well as the New Year approaches it makes you reflect on all the things that have happened in the year. For me it has been an incredible incredible year. Mostly all highs, although there were some lows they seems to pale in comparison to the good stuff.

Having a child is obviously the biggest change. It has been the most fun but most challenging thing. It's amazing how much you can love another person. Plus it's a different kind of love then what I've ever had before. Like when I go in and see him in the morning I feel love from the tips of my fingers to the end of my toes. Plus it makes me love everyone around more. When I see them interacting and loving Lucas, it make my heart shine.

Going to Europe was also big on the list. It was such an incredible experience. I think traveling does a marvelous job of opening your eyes. It's amazing to see other ways of doing things, different ways to live life. It was also great to be there with Darryl. To go through the challenges of travelling in another country with another language and not hating each other in the end. But loving each other more. =)

It was also amazing to have our first class graduate from SAIT. I worked so so hard to get them through. Not that they were difficult but the process was and continues to be alot of work.

I hope that everyone enjoyed 2005 and I wish you all the happiness and health in 2006.

Happy New Year!!

Scratchy Scratchy

Lucas has decided to scratch and scratch everything. I'm not sure if he likes the way it sounds or it's another new skill he is learning but it seems to be a new pastime. Struggled with sleep alot. Last night was the first night that feeding him didn't put him to sleep. I was up with him for another hour to try and get him back to sleep. He has gone back to waking up once a night, although morning wake up time has been 6:30 in the morning. Hopefully it will extend a little.

He is laughing a lot more. It is the best sound in the whole wide world. I think I'm happier about the laughing then smiling becuase it took alot longer to come. He is ticklish and so that usually works to get him going. He also like doing "boo" while doing the laundry.

We've also started giving him a little bit of ceral. So far he seems to be taking it okay. The first couple of times we have just given him a teaspoon or so just to be sure he doesn't have an allergic reaction. I think we'll just increase it as time goes on. Slowly so that it doesn't constipate him.

Well it's almost a New Year, tommorrow I'll be sure to reflect on everything that's happened in this past year.

Well more tommorrow. But it has been an amazing year.

Ummmm tiger butter

Made the tiger butter last night and it was delicious! Although very rich. It will last me a long time as I can only eat one peice a day and it made a whole pan. I took some over to my baker neighboor Lorraine, I'm hoping she impressed.

Lucas is bouncing beside me in his Jolly Jumper. I tried to put him down, but he would have none of it. Just looking around at everything in his room. We are listening to the itunes Lullaby mix, so hopefully he will be getting tired soon. Although I don't really care as long as he's happy.

We went to the library and mall today. Funny how some people go ga ga over babies. Some of is the store you are in too. Eddie Bauer the sales lady loved him. American Eagle I don't know if she even realized. Darryl met me for lunch and did a little shopping after. He found it difficult to weave with the stroller. Some stores are desinged for it and others are not.

Looking forward to New Years, Mom and Dad said they would come and watch Lucas so Darryl and I can go to Tand P's for there party. Then the little guy can stay in his own bed.

Well the boy with the sticking out tongue is fussing. I should go and see if he'll fall asleep now.

Defying Gravity

Another quick post for this afternoon becuase of a funny story. Lucas was in his Jolly Jumper, jumping and jumping like he loves and then had a big poop. I could hear it so I took him upstairs to change his bum. There was almost no poop in the diaper it was all up his back. How can poop defy gravity??

Trust me it was a blast to clean up. To take off the undershirt do I get the poop all over his legs or all over his head?? (I opted for legs). He is all clean and put back together now.

Till tommorrow.

Look I have a Tongue

So in the past day or so Lucas has realized he has a tongue. He loves sticking it out, making "clicky" noises with it. It's like all the sudden he realized that his tongue is part of him and he can do stuff with it. It's hilarous and amazing all at the same time. He's gone down well for naps today. So far it's been a good day.

Darryl took the CRV to work today, it's a weird feeling to be confined to the house, and not that I'm confined, we still went for a walk with the dog. But I can't just run to the store. Plus I still haven't got the ingredigents for tiger butter. Maybe tonight....

Right now I"m talking with a friend of mine from highschool on MSN. It's great that the internet brings people so close together. Although we were great friends in highschool, the rest of life can get in the way. It's so good that we can connect this way.

Anyway, so a short blog today, too busy catching up.

Normal?

Well today life is returning to th new "normal" It's just Lucas and I at home for the day and we haven't really seen anyone else. He's 4 months old and this is just starting to feel like the norm. He had another screaming fit prior to going down for his nap and I resorted to feeding him before putting him down.

Well while writing the last line he started to fuss in bed. During the day he defintly likes to stay up after eating, so here we are and hourish later, after a little play time he is back in bed. It is amazing how nap times can be so different. Sometimes he goes down easy and other times it's a fight. This one was easy and all I kept thinking is how much I prefer swaying while putting Lucas to sleep then swaying in the OR waiting for a surgeon. =) While we were palying he was totally laughing and smiling. He can be such a fun boy.

Oma and Opa took us to Olive Garden last night for dinner. Lucas was good. He was copying Dad, when Dad would growl at Lucas, Lucas would growl back. It's amazing how quickly they learn. I also heard that while Opa was here he gave Lucas some icing from our cinnamon buns. Although it thrilled Opa I am quite upset. Although I'm sure part of it is that it is a stressful time of year. As his parents we should be making the desicion about when to feed him and what to feed him. I know I should just "blow it out" a smidge of icing never hurt anyone. He didn't have an allergic reaction and is still breastfeeding just fine. But I'm still a little perturbed.

Oprah today was about the movie "Crash". I sounds very good and I'd like to see it. I really like movies that make you think (or ones that make you laugh). Now that Lucas has an earlier bedtime maybe Darryl and I should watch some movies. Although we do enjoy Saturday night hockey. The movie is about racism and if we are racist. Plus it was written and directed by a Canadian.

Anyhoo, hope everyone is enjoying there day after boxing day.

And thanks Mo, Allison and Allison's mom for the tiger butter recipie. If you'd like a copy Mo published it on his blog. http://mokhan.blogspot.com/

Crazy lady with her stroller boxing day shopping!

Well no post yesterday as we were busy making a turkey dinner for everyone. Lucas did have a couple of good naps though. I think Christmas was a little intense for him. He did a good job of opening presents. Once you give him a piece of paper he is happy to rip it. Although then he wants to put it in his mouth. All in all I think he enjoyed it, plus he got lots of great gifts.

Oma and Opa have gone to stay at Auntie Karen's so Emma is feeling better. Opa tries so hard to get her to come to him, holding out big peipces of turkey, getting down on the floor. But Emma still won't trust him. Oh well......

Darryl and I also had a good Christmas he is spending lots of time with the ipod. My speakers were a hit yesterday. Spent most of the evening reminsing about the last 6ish years living in Calgary and all the adventures we've had. I'm happy to be a person with adventures, and look forward to sharing them with little L.

Went boxing day shopping today. Got some good gifts for myself. It's hard to buy clothes for other people, but fun to buy them for myself. I'm wearing one of my new fleecys right now. But holy cow was it ever busy. Lots of people for Lucas to look at, although not easy to maneuver the stroller around all the people. I'm sure some people cursed me. =)

Anyway I hope everyone has a relaxing post turkey day.

Poor Emma

Well I got exactly what I wanted for Christmas. Earlier this year I was at Auntie Karen's house an she had these incredible Bose speakers. Then I saw Leo Laporte on Regis and Kelly, saying they were the best speakers. So that's what I asked for as I know Darryl likes to buy me "techy" stuff. So far I love them. Once Lucas wakes up from his afternoon nap I will blare some songs.

I also gave Darryl his new ipod, which I think he is quite a fan of. He's asking me questions about itues already , which is kind of a nice change to be the expert on something computer related. I just hope he loves it as much as everyone I know who has an ipod.

I titled this post poor Emma becuase Opa is here. She is so scared of him. All day she has been avoiding him like the plage. It will not be a good Christmas for her. We did get her to eat her breakfast, but we had to move it close to Darryl, so she felt protected. Plus this morning I came upstairs and she was up there all by herself.

Well tonight we are headed to T and P's for Christmas Eve. Hope Santa is good to everyone!

Working Part Time

Well Darryl is putting Lucas down for his nap. It's so nice to have him home and he's home for 4 days. Merry Christmas Jenn. It's like I only have to work part time for 4 days. Plus he has had great naps today. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this will continue (although my guess is it won't)

Mom, Lexie and Dad came over for tacos last night. Then we watched Deal or No Deal. I do find the show a little annoying, but at the same time I keep watching it. People are very mellow dramatic and the show is all based on luck, not skill. But I will probably watch it again tonight, although the hockey game is on.... Go Calgary Go!

Darryl brought home this excellent Tiger Butter from his friend and co-worker Mo's wife. It was so so good. I'm stealing from "friends" to say it was a little piece of heaven. Mo if you read this please send me the recipie.

Also went to see one of our neighboors Kim, who just had a little baby girl. The baby had to come a little early, so she is so so little. It was amazing for me to see how much a Little L has changed in 4 months. So amazing. I've also started putting him in the swing at the park. I hang onto him but he likes to swing back and forth. Then Emma can play longer as well.

Went grocery shopping today, it wasn't too bad. Plus the little man is getting easier and easier to handle.

Anyway I'll post again tommorrow, although Oma and Opa will be here, it may be a short one.

Christmas is almost here!!

Well Lucas is down for a nap again. 2pmish seems to work well for him. Although yesterdays nap only lasted 30 minutes. I'm hoping this one will be longer. I had no idea how this year of my life would be consumed with how much my child is sleeping.

The doctor suggested giving him cereal to help him sleep longer at night. He is a bigger baby (75 percentile) and if he has Darryl's metabolism he might need the cereal early. So today I went to the Walmart and bought some baby spoons. I tried feeding him water with it. I"m sure about 95% of the water went on his bib and the high chair, but atleast he's starting to get the idea. When that blue thing comes at me I open my mouth. Maybe in a couple of days we'll try a little formula on the spoon.

Went to the Japanese Village last night. It was great, I love that food. Plus it was good to see Lexie again. I know she lives in Edmonton, but I just feel better about her being here in Calgary.

Finshed up the last of the Christmas shopping today. Although I still have to get the turkey tommorrow. But Darryl will be home and I can go to the grocery store by myself, although taking Lucas is not that bad.

Merry Christmas Everyone

Rolling Over- Front to Back

Well Lucas is down for his afternoon nap. Yeah, I'm hoping it's a long one like yesterday as we are going to Japanese Village for dinner tonight. Yeah!!

This morning's nap was not as successful. Part of the problem was we kind of slept in. So I'm not sure if he was really really tired. But the bigger problem was he has learned how to roll from his front to his back. Which is great but he wanted to practice his new skill all through nap time. Grrrr. He did sleep on our walk which was good.

Yesterday continued to be a good day. He weighs 15 pounds 10 ounces and is 25 1/2 inches long. He still woke up twice in the night, so maybe next week we'll start the cereal. I just don't want him to grow up too fast.

I'm off to cuddle up with a cup of tea. Although it's warm here today it's cloudy, which is good for cuddling up.

Bienvenue

Well welcome to my blog. I enjoy reading other people's blogs so I thought I might start one of my own. Plus this can give Lucas's relatives a good idea of what goes on with him on a daily basis. He is currently down for his afternoon nap. We just got back from having his second set of immmunizations, which was not fun, but not as bad as I was expecting. His poor little face does turn very red. I did give him some tyelnol before we went and can give him more in a couple of hours. Hopefully he will have a good afternoon nap.

Talk to one of my co-workers today about the possiblity of going back to help out in fall semester 2 hours a week. In someways I think it would be great, but I am torn about the idea. If Darryl can get the time to take care of Lucas then great, if not I will stay home with him.

Oma called today, her and Opa are coming on Friday for Christmas, it will be good for them to see the baby again, he has changed so much since they last saw him.

That's all for now, keep your fingers crossed for a happy baby tonight!
