The other day Nathan was chomping on my toothbrush and we took it from the bathroom to my side table. When I went to brush my teeth that night, I was so grateful that I could walk over to the table and it wasn't a major deal where I had to decide if I was going to hop on one foot over to it or call for Darryl to get it for me. Ahh the little things.
To update, my foot is doing really well. I walked around Disney any of the days we went. I am slowly getting more movement and flexibility in it. Today I also went to the chiropractor and she "cracked" it for me. She also did some deep muscle massage on the front of my foot and it brought tears to my eyes.
I have also been going to physiotherapy which is so fun. Even tonight I went and things are looking really good. I probably don't need to continue, but it's free and so fun. Tonight I stood on a wiggly board and had to balance on my bad foot. Then with my good foot which was raised I had to spell the alphabet. Last week I had to put my foot on a board with a half ball under it and make the edges touch the ground all the way around. See different and fun stuff.
So year all in all things are going well with my foot and I spend lots of time being grateful for walking on two feet.

Kindness: The Spirit of the Season
One of the things about breaking my foot is that I have seen kindness in family, friends and strangers. To me this is what the holiday season is about. Not the gluttony of gifts or the pressure to get the right things (which I avoid this year by only buying gifts for 3 people).
So thank you to everyone who helped.
Darryl you were amazing. Never once did you complain about having to take Emma out almost every day or having to bring me tea or going to get Nathan after nap time.
Mom, thanks for taking me to all my appoitments and bringing groceries or other little things we needed to get. Thanks for listening when I was going stir crazy or taking me shopping, even though you had to push me in a wheelchair.
Lynda, thanks for coming out. Your visit was the best gift for us.
To Lesley, Kim and Andrea. I am grateful to all of you. You were never required to step up but you all did. I hold you all in the highest regard. Thanks for driving me around and making sure I didn't go crazy in this house. Also thanks for providing me with some adult conversation whether through e-mail or facebooking.
To strangers, thanks for holding open doors when you saw me coming or helping load groceries.
People could run away or complain about having to help, but no one did. This is the spirit of the season we are in. And although this broken foot totally sucked it does help renew the faith in people.
Thanks to everyone

A Different Kind of Picture Part 3- The Final Installment
On Sunday we went in for a 5 week check up. We've learned to go first thing in the morning and then the wait is almost non existent. Went over for my x-rays and good good news. After my 3 week x-ray showed no healing the 5 week one shows it almost all healed up. YEAH!! So the doctor said one more week and then I can be boot free and walk on my foot. I am suppose to go see my family doctor, but I am so happy about this. I've done lots of reading about Jones fractures and because of the location it doesn't have a lot of blood supply so generally doesn't heal quickly. But I've been wiggiling my toes lots and taking extra calcium and it may have helped. Ahh one more week and then freedom again.

YEAH!!

Any Ideas..
Over the summer I had a bit of an epiphany. I wanted to start enjoying everyday of my life rather then going through the motions, or wishing the boys were older. I have been doing great and feeling grateful everyday. I love the ages of the kids, love that I am on maternity leave, love that Darryl works from home, love the house. As you can see I've been enjoying everyday.
But the last couple of weeks I have been living each day dreading the next one. This broken foot has made life hard. As I put the boys to bed at night I just feel sad. Tomorrow will be sitting on the floor all day again. Doing exactly the same thing, playing with the same toys. I am dreaming for days I can drive again. Where I can do a good job cleaning the kitchen. Where I can carry my baby around to cheer him up. I want to take my dog out for a walk in the fresh air and throw snowballs with Lucas. It's amazing how much I will appreciate having two working feet again.
So for those of you who love to be at home, what is your favorite thing to do at home? We need some new stuff to do.
Till Tomorrow

Different Kind of Picture: Week 3
On Sunday I went in for another x-ray and to see the doctor about my foot. A couple of things I learned was that it takes weeks for bone regrowth to show up on radiographs. So although there is no regrowth on the x-ray there may be in the bone. The good news is when she poked at the fracture it didn't hurt. So hopefully things are going well and I'll be able to do some weight baring on it in three more weeks.
Here are my radiographs.

When It Rains it Pours
I was at the pharmacy today filling a prescription for Lucas and people were not sure if I was there for my foot or his strep throat. His throat was so sore yesterday he wanted me to carry him around, which I can't really do. So I was skooting around with him on my lap. Luckily we can give Lucas some antibiotics and he will be good in a day or two.
Ahh when it rains it pours.

- Make lunches for 3 adults and 2 children
- Get a baby up the stairs and down the stairs
- Shave her legs in the shower

A Different Kind of Picture....
Here are some pictures of the pain in my bum... or should I say foot.
Here is the AP view, you can see the arrow pointing at the fracture.
The oblique view which show the # best.
And the lateral. Heel is at the back toes at the front.

This is the lateral from yesterday. You can see that the fracture lines are a little more defined, although luckily the piece that has broke off has not moved at all.

THe oblique view again from yesterday, the best view of the fracture

And the AP again.
So the good news was yesterday got it x-rayed again and the piece hasn't moved. I go back for another x-ray again in two weeks.

Day One
Well desperation is master of invention. After fretting about how bad today was going to be it turned out to be not so bad. Maybe it's a good thing I have young children as most of my transportation was similar to that of a baby. Although I did use my crutches to get around. I also crawled, scootched and dragged myself around. One of the most effective ways was walking on my knees. That way I could pick Nathan up if I needed to without putting any weight on my foot. Although I am going to wear out the knees and the bums of all my pants. Darryl was also such a great help.
I am still feeling a little frustrated and confined, but it went better today then expected.
It was amazing that the boys were kind of emotional today. They really pick up that something is wrong.
Till Tomorrow and Day 2 of surviving...
