A friend of mine made me a new CD, she like eclectic music, like I do so it's been fun for me to be introduced to to new music. The problem with new CD's is that when I put them in itunes I don't know the artists or song titles. But someone very smart made an app for the iphone which listens to music and tell you the name of the song. It is a really helpful app. It's called Shazam and it's free and fantastic. If you have an iphone and don't have this app, you should get on it.
I love my iphone. It's so smart.

Back to the Couch
A couple of weeks ago I was having milk and cookies up in bed. When I was done with the computer I put it down beside me and went to sleep. At some point the last of my milk got spilt on the computer. Now the computer has been through lots, it had grapefruit juice spilt on it. Was once shocked to the point it took days to wake up. So when I saw it was wet, I let it dry opened it up, washed it and put it back together. It wouldn't start. I left it for a day and tried it again. I took out the battery and plugged it in and boom it turned on. So we took it up to the apple store to see if it was just a new battery that we needed. But no, it was the connection between the battery and the computer. Suddenly my laptop became a desktop. So I ordered a new computer. In the last couple of weeks, there was a lack of posting and a lack of checking e-mail. But today my new computer came, so once again I can post on my couch. I am amazed at how seamlessly the transition was. I plugged in my old computer to the new one and a couple of hours later my new computer is just like the old one, expect I can use it on the couch.

Reason 707 I Love Apple
Today I went into the Apple store becuase my laptop wasn't a laptop anymore and needed to be plugged into work. So I went to their website and made an appotiment with a genuius. They did some tests and yep it was my battery. But there was no fee to diagnosis my problem. Also while I was there they offered to install a new keyboard and front panel, because my old panel was cracked, again for free! So for a new keyboard, a diagnosis and a new battery. I only had to pay for the new battery. And it was easy and fun! Plus I think a genius would be a great job for my Dad or Darryl.
Buy Apple! They are awesome! I am so impressed.

A Mystery
While in Kelowna my laptop would shut down every time I unplugged it even though it said it was fully charged. It would seem like the battery may be pouched. I have been living with it for a couple of weeks now. Last night I tested my friends battery in my computer because that's what I thought it was, but no.... it didn't work. This is the laptop that is a cat, it has many lives. It has had grapefruit juice spilled all over it, Darryl once pronounced it dead after I shocked it and it shut down. So I keep thinking it will come back to me.... but so far nothing.
I think the next step will be to take it to a surgeon. Hopefully he or she can fix it. Please Apple store, let the cat have another life.

Google Reader
Each day I have about 20 blogs that I read. Most of these people post on a daily basis. I have come to love reading all these blogs and feel some attachment to these people as well. Happy for them when things are going right, sad when things are going wrong. To read all these blogs I had used Firefox to open them all in tabs. This worked well for me, but I was curious about Google Reader which Darryl uses all the time.
Darryl and I are quite a fan of most things Google. We both use gmail and love it. We've been able to convince a lot of our family and friends to start using gmail. Gmail also has a chat function that I use to talk to people. I now talk to Darryl's sister through g-mail all the time, where I rarely talked to her before. I talk to my mom and Tammy quite a lot as well. I'm also a fan of the Google documents, especially for work "stuff". Then I can have access to my work documents wherever there is internet. I also use google calendar (especially to keep up with my mom's work schedule), google maps ( i think it works the best of all the "map" programs). Darryl has been using Google reader for quite a while, so I have decided to try it for reading my blogs. So far so good. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Google reader, when you are on a site that you want to be updated on when there are any changes click the little orange button in the address bar. Then google reader will check when that site is updated and let you know when you go to the Google reader page. It's quite cool, now I only have to check one page to see who's posted new blog entries.
Just wondering if there is any tool you use to keep up with blogs? Bloglines? Or do you do it old school where you open the webpage to check if there is anything new?

End of My Rope
Today was one of those days I could cry at a whim. Heard a song on the radio, it made me cry, read a sad blog, I was crying. People let me down today, not major things, but enough. Pressure to do something that I'm not ready to do yet, make me upset.
Darryl is on quite the high the last couple of days, he has been waiting for an update to the MacBook Pro and it came through this week. So this e-mail did cheer me up this evening:
Bill Gates, who made his millions by being in the right place at the right time when landed the purchase of MS suffered another set back today when Hard core programmer Darryl _____ opted to the Macintosh platform with the purchase order for a new and improved mac book Pro. Bill was unavailable for direct comment to the media. The reporter did overhear the word "DAMMIT" coming from behind the closed door of his office suite when he was delivered the news. When Bill's secretary was contacted to confirm the comment the media was told Bill was watching a rerun of last season 24 and that word being Jack's favorite word of the moment. It was confirmed that Darryl has decided he would rather switch than fight. (article as found on the underground newspaper web site)

It was from my dad, who is the elephant that never forgets and since the beginning of our relationship has always teased Darryl about being a "non Mac" guy. Now Darryl has joined the dark side, or maybe the white side. Here he is checking my laptop, does he want a glossy or matte screen, while Lucas and I played playdoh.
Hopefully the sun will come out tomorrow

The 1500 Dollar Toy
One of the new great things about my computer is that it has an isight camera in the top of it. This has become very conducive to taking alot of videos. I am sure you have seen quite a bit of them on this blog. I have also been using it for videoconferencing with my sister in Edmonton and my parents who live much closer.
Another advantage has been taking lots of videos of Lucas. It's easy to use and Lucas is always amazed that he can see himself while I"m recording. As you can see from these images he is obsessed with watching videos of himself. Whenever he sees my white beast he wants to watch videos of himself playing cars or saying Pop. He loves it. It will always make him happy. No matter how grouchy, once he sees the white beast he's pointed at it and stops crying so he can watch himself.

In the last couple of days we have had some children visitors. I have a video of Shaun singing "We Will Rock You" while sitting on the toilet. Since Shaun realized he too can watch himself on the computer we have watched the "We Will Rock You" video oh maybe 1000 times. Good thing the video is only 20 seconds long.
Glad my 1500$ purchase is going to good use.

MacBook
Well today's post comes to you from my living room. What does this mean you ask? Well today I picked up my new laptop/MacBook. So Darryl has the wireless installed and now I can surf the internet in the comfort of my living room. This is an amazing feat that I have never known before. Yeah for my MacBook. I'm not quite sure yet what I"m going to do to personalize it, maybe I should give her a name, maybe get some cool stickers or a cover for it, like they have for ipods. If anyone has any great ideas I'd love to hear them. It took a very long time to come in, but now that it is here I'm so happy about it.
One of the great features of the MacBook is that is has an isight camera built in. So today I took this video of Lucas eating his afternoon snack. At first he is amazed that he can see himself on the computer, then I get us singing and he is quickly distracted.
